Women over-apologize. A lot.
Words have the ability to either give power or take it away. And as our cultural dialogue around feminism has grown, the idea that women over-apologize has gotten a lot of talk time. Yet it is hard to find quantitative research that explored what drives this behavior.
In order to change behavior, one first has to understand it. So Heat developed our own study with the goal of understanding the motivations behind apologizing and how apologetic behavior influences the way people view each other and themselves. Strategists talked to 1,500 men an women across the US and turned our results into a dynamic site where people can learn about the findings and challenge themselves to change their behavior for the better.
I had the opportunity to use this data to concept and design this website with my coworker to create an original, inviting website of data visualization.
I also worked to create assets for an animator who produced short spots to advertise the site.

California Home+Design Magazine exemplifies California's inspirational, modern, classic, colorful and fresh aesthetic through home decor, architecture and lifestyle. I worked as the designer of the magazine for a couple of years and worked with the intimate team of editorial, production, web and creative director to portray the colorful and visual view of the magazine in print. In early 2013 I worked with a new creative director to redesign CH+D into a quarterly publication. This change allowed me to assist in the rebrand by choosing new fonts, changing the layout and design to reflect a more visual, keepsake issue of the magazine. The spring 2013 edition of CH+D was the last issue I worked on the magazine, and I had the privilege of redesigning the logo and basic layouts for all forthcoming issues.
A couple times a year 7x7 Magazine in San Francisco produces an inset nightlife guide highlighting hot new and old bars, restaurants and venues. I collaborated with the 7x7 team to help format, choose photography and layout the mini guide in 2013 and their similar publication of the 7x7 City Guide for 2012.

In January 2014, I had the opportunity to work with a group of creative women to create a new independent magazine, Prime. I worked on the team as the Creative Director, Designer and Production Manager. As with any project, Prime began as and idea and by commissioning content from illustrators, photographers and writers, we were able to create a strong visual publication reflective of the wonders in the world around us.
All issues of Prime were perfect bound by hand
